Habit That!

"Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going." - Jim Rohn

To change anything in our life, we need the motivation to do so. Where we pull that motivation from is different for everyone. Whether it's within us to better ourselves, or for our children, family, a medical condition or "just 'cause"! I know there are people like my son and my fiance (pictured with me here) that I am personally motivated by to do the best I can in whatever it is I do. Even as a teen, I strived to achieve above and beyond, and although they were all different types of successes, they were still that... successes.

The key to holding onto what it is we want, is by making it a habit. Not something that we blame lack of willpower on, but pure and simple habit. When something is a habit, it's so much easier to deal with, just like getting dressed, showering, brushing your teeth, etc. It's instilled in us as a way of living.

Usually we don't have to consciously think about doing our daily routines, things that come natural, and that's where habit comes into play. Changing your lifestyle to a healthy and active one can be challenging for anyone, but when it becomes habit, it flows into our day to day lives without much thought. I'm sure there are a lot of things you do day to day without actually thinking about it, you just DO it. Picking up your clothes, doing dishes after a meal, it's just what should be done, and you just do it! Just like blogging to some folks. There was something that motivated them, or even YOU, to start a blog, yet you post things daily, or naturally when thoughts run through your head, and it's a habit. I think a lot of times this is a great habit, because it allows us to write and type out our convictions, and how we want to live our lives, and is a constand reminder of the type of person we want to be. Blogs and journals are very therapeutic in that sense. I know I love mine!

Healthly lifestyle habits are easy to come by. I know there are things that I never thought I could do. Like cut out (what I call) "the white stuff". Pasta, breads, potatoes, fries, etc. I used to eat SO much of this stuff! True, my diabetes came into play with my decision to change that, but that was my motivation! I wonder to this day if I wasn't diagnosed with type II diabetes if I would have ever changed that habit. But, just like it was a habit to endulge in them, over the years, I've made it a habit to steer clear of them. Some habits, you can just do a "180" on. Never look back. Never thought I could switch from regular to diet soda, but I did. Now, my goal is to make drinking water a habit to replace the diet soda habit. One step at a time. Even taking a sip of regular soda makes me cringe. It tastes so nasty to me now. Like pure syrup. YUCK!

From switching out bad to good habits, and even creating brand new habits, you can slow begin to achieve the lifestyle you want. Heck, it doesn't even have to be about food!! It can even be a change of letting things fester, to learning to forgive quicker! You never know what you can do when you take positive motivation and turn it into HABIT!

Have a great week and weekend everyone! I'm enjoying my time with my fiance while he's on leave here at home, and getting more excited about my big move come end of May! *cheers*

Passon & Desire

Keep the actions coming

Put yourself on the line. Decide what you're going to do, and then get busy right away with making it happen.

When you begin, you won't know the details of everything that must be done. What you will know, though, is what the first step must be.

Go ahead and take that first step without delay. Once you're moving, once you establish some momentum, you'll begin to get a much better sense of what to do next.

Certainly it is important to make careful plans for what you intend to accomplish, but don't let the planning stand in the way of doing. Be energized by the desire to get it done, and by anticipating the way you'll feel when the accomplishment is completed.

Act from a place of desire and purpose, not from a place of confusion about exactly how it's all going to happen. Prime the pump of accomplishment by taking action, and once you get started the successes will continue to flow.

Keep the goal in mind, stay connected to your purpose, and keep the actions coming. Your passion and desire will create an effective way to make it happen.

- Ralph Marston

I read this today, and loved the impression it had upon me. Just keeps me focused on the goals I want to achieve. and I loved it.

On another note, for those of you I do not have on my Facebook page, I am happy to report that I am now engaged!!! I'm so excited to start this journey, and the next phase of my life. Above is my ring, with three stones representing "past, present and future". I have to say that I'm uber blessed in my life, and am a true believer that when one door closes, another opens, renewing your faith and trust in people.

I do hope that everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend with family and friends. I had an overload of meeting my fiance's family, and was so warmly welcomed and accepted, and had so much fun meeting and sharing this weekend with everyone.

My son got back Saturday with his dad's family from Florida, where he had a great time at Disney World. I was so excited for him, and was happy that he and his brother and sisters were able to get my Easter package for them in time to open Sunday. I miss him so much, and cannot wait to see him in July! So many positive changes happening, and I'm just so excited for my future!!

Going to finally head to the gym with my fiance (sounds good saying that) tonight, and get some cardio and weight training in. We definitely need it after all the food this weekend! ugh!! LOL. Hope you all have a fantastic week!! *hugs*

Holiday Weekend

This will be my first Easter in my son's life that I will not be spending with him. I know in my heart he's doing well, and he's enjoying this school year out at his dad's, it's still a bit hard for me. It will also be the first time I haven't spent his birthday come April 21st with him either. I cannot feel too bad, because now his dad gets the chance to have Liam for Easter AND his birthday. All those years, HE had to go without, and now he gets to have his family and all of his children under one roof. I love you guys so much!

On a positive note though, I'm heading to get my Man at the airport at 7pm tonight. So many things are running through my head, since the last time I saw Him in person, we were just friends, hanging out while He was on leave last September. It's amazing what has transpired between us since then. Words cannot express the love and respect I have for Him. We will be spending Easter Sunday with His family, and then later, head off to do our own thing with friends. Tonight, it will be a visit with His immediate family. I'm nervous, but I'm not. I think it's more excitement than anything. All I know is I cannot wait to see Him for the first time at the airport. *happy sigh*

Ok, enough with the mushy, emotional stuffs... LOL. Just wanted to wish you all a wonderful holiday weekend, whether you celebrate the resurrection or just do the bunny thing, I hope you all have a fabulous weekend! Take care of youselves, and each other! Ciao!

More on Goal Setting...

Today in my inbox was my daily email from Jillian Micheals. It was about goal setting. This really hits home right now, because there is so much I have and want to accomplish, but I also want to be realistic about it all. Here's part of the 3 steps Jillian recommends when it comes to goal setting, and I totally agree:

First: Think long and hard about what you want. Make sure your goals are actually things you want to achieve, not what society dictates or what your family or friends want for you. Ultimately your life is yours and you must live it for yourself. I know you might be thinking that's selfish, but so what? Sometimes being a little selfish is a good thing, especially if it enables you to take care of yourself.

I totally understand this goal, but at the same time I do believe we have to look inside ourselves and the big picture on what our goals will do to our families, especially our kids as well. There has to be a balance. I'm looking forward to finding something that will allow me the freedom to spend time at home with the future little ones. This is why I wish to get my certification as a personal trainer, as well as get certified as a nutrionist/dietician. It will give me the opportunity to open up doors to a whole other career. I will love working with insurance, and plan on getting licensed in Idaho as well, but that will be to fall back on if financial times get tough. I've even had ideas of looking into youth health and fitness grants to see if there might be a program I can start off there that will benefit the families of the community I will live in, as well as being beneficial to my own family as well.

Second: Remember, goals are not inflexible roadblocks meant to make you feel badly about yourself. If you don't accomplish a goal exactly on schedule, so what? You can't predict what life is going to throw your way — but you CAN choose the way you react to situations that come up. That is where your power lies. If you fall off the wagon, just get back on — no ifs, ands, or buts about it.

I think this is one of the reasons people get discouraged, because things don't always go their way. We have to learn to be able to adapt, accept and roll with the punches in life. Even when it comes to our own goals. I already know road blocks I may have to deal with, like, what if He gets deployed again, or reassigned? What if I end up being the lucky family member that ends up having the twins? What if Liam decides to move back in with me for high school? I'm not saying any of this will happen, but what if it does? They will ALL affect my goals and time for those goals. I'm not saying they will be put on the backburner, but there will be adjustment to be made. I'm sure there are plenty more obstacles waiting to be seen, but I'll deal with them when I come to them.

Third: We all have to be realistic when we set our goals... realistic and productive.

Again, great advice. If and when we set our goals way too high, they end up seemingly impossible, and we get discouraged. By making them realistic, and reaching them, it pumps us up to make new goals, and keep that desire to be productive, and keep moving in attempts to achieve our ultimate goals in life.

All this goal setting talk has been on my mind, especially because of my move come end of May. I really see it as a whole new start on life. Another chance to get what I want out of life, and make the life that Liam and my kids deserve.

Anyway, less than 33 hrs, and I'll be seeing my future, and kiss Him on the lips! LOL. Have a great day and a blessed Easter weekend!!
