Quick Fixes & the Truth

How many times have you seen it? 8 Minute Abs!! 8 Minute Thighs and Buns! 8 Minute Arms! or how about Give us just 10 minutes 5 times a week and you will be on your way to a perfect shape faster than you ever thought possible!

In a world that is so fast paced and go-go-go, it seems we're always looking for the quick fix.

I came across this link from my friend Jody's blog at Truth2BeingFit.com where she talked about different exercise options. One link that caught my eye was an informative post called "Eight is not Enough". Definitely click it and give it a read after this. The exercises and infomercials geared toward having that thin and sexy body in less than 10 minutes a day.

Problem is, if you've ever gotten these tapes or DVD's (which I own a few myself) and read the recommendations that come with them, these are truly only meant for days that you absolutely have no time to exercise, but still want to get SOMETHING in. These are not meant nor are they intended for you to only do the 8-10 minutes per day. Even if you did them all 7 days out of the week, that would max your fitness time in at 70 mintues per week, which is less than HALF of the 150 minutes the government guidelines and American Counsel of Exercise (ACE) recommend.

These exercises are just "fillers" people. The extra boost in the morning, or that extra before bed after you had that piece of birthday cake you swore you were going to say no too. They are NOT to be total exercise replacements.

My friend Nick Garcia on Twitter (@360Fitness) posted a quote up one day that definitely has stuck with me since the day I read it a couple weeks ago, and it's so frighteningly true...

Those who think they have not time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness. ~Edward Stanley

Have a great weekend everyone :)

  1. Thx for the mention Cher! You did such a great job of saying it all about these tapes & infomercials! Yes, something is better than nothing but you certainly are not going to get the results they promise... unless you read that tiny little print that says "these results are not typical.... eating a healthy diet & exercise are recommended.. etc."
